General Background Information

A community’s transportation system influences both the way in which it functions and the way in which it is perceived.

The combination of land use and transportation affects many elements of a community – most importantly livability, aesthetics, and the efficiency of movement to and from, as well as around, the place.

It is important for a community to define what kind of roads, bike and pedestrian facilities it needs to grow successfully, and to locate them relative to how land is used now and will be used in the future.
