Big Lake Community Council

General Background Information

The original Big Lake Comprehensive Plan (completed in 1996) included goals and recommendations for guiding future development of Big Lake. Some of theses were implemented, however a large majority of the plan recommendations were never acted upon.

In early 2009, a collaborative effort between the Mat-Su Borough and 40 planning team members from the Big Lake community resulted in the new Big Lake Comprehensive Plan Update. 

In August 2009. the Big Lake Community Council approved the formation of the Big Lake Comprehensive Plan Implementation Committee. This committee identified three key focus areas as a starting point for implememting the community's vision:

• Community Center
• Transportation
• Economic Development

In December 2009, subcommittees were identified to allow for more extensive work in each key area.  Those subcommittees  are listed to the right. 

Membership to all Community Council committees and subcommittees is open to any community member, regardless of residency status or council membership.
